The Director, Damages is responsible for providing expert level advice and expertise in the calculation of construction delay and disruption related damages, cost verification, cost engineering, dispute resolution and litigation support. The Director, Damages may also provide expert testimony and technical leadership related to damages quantification and other cost analysis issues for construction litigation and disputes. Directors are expected to be an outward face of the firm by participating in marketing and business development initiatives. The Director, Damages also assists in staff training, mentoring and development, and other operational initiatives, as necessary. This individual must demonstrate management experience, mastery of construction claims cost analysis techniques and strong client management skills.

Primary Duties

  • Provide leadership and assume primary role in identifying and outlining required scopes and analysis methods
  • Outline and simplify findings related to expert damage analyses and direct the development of related demonstratives
  • Author and lead the development of expert reports to be used in litigation
  • Willingness to work within established processes and contribute to process enhancements as necessary
  • Established contacts in the engineering, construction and legal communities along with and successful track record in business development
  • Compile and maintain detailed records of work product and supporting documentation
  • Identify and pursue membership in relevant industry organizations and pursuit of speaking opportunities where possible
  • Contribute to development of marketing materials and proposals as necessary

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Engineering or Construction Management
  • 10+ years of industry experience specifically in the analysis, quantification and preparation of construction damage claims and disputes
  • Previous experience as a testifying expert on construction damage related claims and disputes
  • CPA certification preferred
  • Hold or be willing to acquire industry specific professional cost, accounting and construction related certifications (CCP, PSP, CCIFP), as necessary

Preferred Skills

  • Construction field experience encouraged but not required
  • Testimony experience and/or the desire and interest to testify is required
  • Participation in business development and marketing services to construction attorney, owner, and contractor clientele is required
  • Experience with industry software programs such as:
    • Construction Cost and Accounting related software platforms
    • Primavera P3/P6
    • Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally when required
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring of team members
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), mathematical and organizational skills;
  • Fluency in English required, and other languages strongly considered as a plus
